Mosquitoes    Tips/Solutions    Video

Preventing mosquitoes in your yard and reducing the number of mosquitoes breeding on your property presents a challenge for many home and land owners in the Washington D.C. area. That's why our entomologists have put together this short video with tips to help you control mosquitoes in your own backyard. Foliage, drainage, and water collection are of top considerations when it comes to mosquito prevention. Be sure to empty pots, toys, and any source that collects as little as a cup of water, after each rain. Not allowing water to collect and become stagnant on your property goes a long way towards eliminating places where mosquitoes breed. Planting mosquito-repelling plants like rosemary, mint, and lavender will also help to prevent mosquitoes from hanging out near places that you enjoy spending time outdoors, such as a patio or deck.
